Lip Balm: The forgotten Survival Tool

Although most people swear by Duct Tape-if it can’t fix it then nothing can- there is another everyday product that can be used in multiple ways and would come in handy for prepping for the end of days: Lip Balm. According to Grand View Outdoors, below are three uses of Lip Balm that are not as widely known.

1. Fire Starter

Lip balm is flammable and is great if it is wet out and you need to start a fire. “Smear a little lip balm on any surface — lint, cloth, a cotton ball, gauze, and dry bark— and it will ignite quickly and burn slowly, making it a great way to ignite tinder without wasting matches or fuel.” Also lip balm can be turned into candles by sticking a q-tip or match halfway down the tube.

2. Emergency Lubricant

Lip balm can be used in a variety of ways in an emergency to seal or protect things. This includes small cuts and scrapes and a light coating of lip balm will also stop minor bleeding. It also can be applied to the heels of your feet prone to blister.

3. Waterproofing

Waterproof a small leak in either tent or jacket with lip balm. It also works well with sticky zippers.
